Twelve-year-old Karli moves to Bad Gastein in the Alps, where his parents finally fulfill their dream of owning their own hotel. But the renovation of the former grand hotel drags on for the entire summer vacation. During his wanderings through the hotel, he discovers that he can make one of the old elevators stop on a strange mezzanine floor. There, the hotel is running at full speed and everything is full of life ... but this is still 1938.
