Glitter, jazz and the abyss: "The Great Gatsby" is a staged reading with music and musical outbursts in the series: "Theaterschiff an Land, zu Gast in der Französischen Kirche Potsdam" on the 85th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald's death. In "The Great Gatsby", the "Jazz Age" of the 1920s meets great emotions and the question of whether the American dream is really sustainable - or just blinding.

F. Scott Fitzgerald is regarded as the literary spokesman of the "Jazz Age", the "Roaring Twenties", the period of great upheaval in the USA after the First World War, which was characterized by economic growth, social freedom, crime and the explosive popularity of jazz. The New York of the interwar years shines in his novels - enthusiastic about the rhythms of Duke Ellington or Louis Armstrong, but at the same time skeptical of the glamour that can be deceptive and is reflected in the contradictions of the novel's characters. There are frighteningly topical references to our times.

The main character is the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, who has been in love for years with the beautiful Daisy, who married another man during his military service. "The Great Gatsby" is a tragic love story, social panorama and swan song of excess and decadence all rolled into one. On stage, it becomes a reading "with musical outbursts": Isabell Gerschke and Christian Näthe create the text and also sing to it, accompanied by Brandenburg saxophonist Sebastian Hillmann. Literature thus becomes a concert evening - between party light and reverberation.

Isabell Gerschke and Christian Näthe can be seen as a duo for the second time, and their successful evening "Sketch of a Summer" will continue to be performed on the Theaterschiff.

Isabell Gerschke studied pop singing at the Musicians Institute Hollywood and completed stage dance training at Danceworks in Berlin. She is known to television audiences as a detective in "Polizeruf 110" and "Heiter bis tödlich: Akte Ex" and as a doctor in the TV series "In aller Freundschaft".
Christian Näthe had his first film roles as a teenager, followed by numerous other film and television roles, such as "Jochen" in "Deckname Luna", the biology teacher in "Fack ju Göthe", or "Haptmann Heym" in "Ballon". He has also appeared in various TV series, "Notruf Hafenkante", "Ein starkes Team", "Soko Potsdam" and the AppleTV series "Hijack.". He is co-founder, singer and guitarist of the band "Hasenscheisse".
Sebastian Hillmann is a well-known saxophonist from Brandenburg, e.g. from "Meiers Clan".
