Die Alkestiade

In the organizer's words:

Ancient Greece, long before its heyday. People recognize their destiny in myths and oracles, symbols and prophecies. The young princess Alkestis refuses to accept the prospect of a predictable life as a wife and mother. But then the noble Admetus manages to pass an impossible test and win her as his wife in a contest. A god must have helped him. Is there a higher will behind the marriage? Three lowly shepherds appear on the day of the wedding. One of them is the god Apollo in human form. But no one can find out which one.

Along their archaic story of rebellion and sacrifice, submission and revenge, THE ALKESTIADE poses eternally young questions of a struggling, meaning-seeking humanity.
