Die Stasi und der Fußball

The Ministry for State Security (MfS) was active in many areas in the GDR and abroad. Thanks to the commitment of many citizens during the Peaceful Revolution, 111 kilometers of files were secured. They bear witness to the extent of surveillance and spying.

The Stasi also influenced the lives of GDR footballers in very different ways. Like other GDR citizens, they experienced surveillance and repression, but could also be beneficiaries of the system. The guided tour through the exhibition "Insight into Secrecy" shows not only the working methods and methods of the Stasi, but also examples of how the secret service influenced soccer and its players.

After the tour, you can visit the Stasi Records Archive's collection of sample files and apply for access to the files directly on site.
