"When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a monstrous vermin."

With these words, the metamorphosis of the cloth merchant Gregor from man to bug begins: Gregor's awakening is an immersion in a nightmare from which there is no awakening. In three chapters, Kafka describes the unstoppable process of alienation from himself and his social environment - a story of total communicative failure.

The ATZE Musiktheater brings Kafka's most famous story to the stage as a staged reading with music. The music is closely interwoven with the story, illustrating and commenting on the events in constant "interaction" with the narrator.
