In what feels like a stream of consciousness, director Lana Daher's feature debut charts a modern history of Lebanon through the country's cinematic and audiovisual archive.

The journey, promising nostalgia, humor, and political commentary, ultimately unfolds as a love letter to Beirut, even if that love is expressed with a question mark.

Do You Love Me had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, as part of the official selection of Giornate degli Autori. (JH)

Alia, and the monsters from her childhood are deeply affected by the destruction in Beirut. In her inner world, she encounters Abu Samra, a man training to be a superhero to save Beirut. He, too, harbors his own monsters but offers imaginative glimpses of resistance, inspiring even the filmmaker herself as she steps into the frame.
