Trio Khan

Trio Khan is a transcultural music project that combines jazz with Middle Eastern music. Ancient rhythms, rebellious dissonances and the fusion of diverse sound cultures are the craft that the trio has mastered. Here, musical worlds are allowed to come together, approaches to music-making are combined and the elemental pulsates, moves and makes music.

In Raef Badrkhan's compositions, the trio experiments with unconventional instrumental playing techniques and approaches to improvisation in order to serve the purpose of fusion. The trio transfers microtonality and Arabic figures such as rhythmic and melodic ornaments to its instruments as an indispensable medium; in combination with jazz harmony, they are one of its most characteristic features.
The musicians came together at the Jazz Faculty of the Dresden University of Music and come from Syria, Ukraine and Germany.

EYPA

An EYPA concert is more than just music. Being together, being part of something

something bigger, that's what the Arabic word كن ("Kun") stands for, which is EYPA's nickname.

as an epithet. كن means "being" and symbolizes what the Arabic-German duo wants to achieve with their

wants to achieve with its music: Being in the here and now.

In their music, Eyad Ghannam (e-oud - an Arabic short-necked lute) and Paul-Aaron Wolf (drums, synthesizer) combine different cultural and musical influences to create a unified electro-acoustic sound. As a transcultural project, EYPA attempts to break down the categorical separation between two cultures and create a new world. EYPA's music contains elements of electronic dance, ambient, electro and downtempo. Synthesizers and e-oud create a rich texture of warm colors, while drums and percussion provide a captivating vibe and infectious groove - both in the club and outdoors. Composition and improvisation merge into a trance, turning every live set into a unique show.
