The exhibition ECHOHAUS, which we are realizing with the kind support of Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte mbH (WBM), takes the 30th anniversary of Haus Schwarzenberg as an opportunity to bring together artistic works, sonic traces and archive materials that are connected to the history of the house, its surroundings and Berlin's subculture since the 1990s.

ECHOHAUS brings together artistic positions that have accompanied and shaped Haus Schwarzenberg since the 1990s and forms the third part of our exhibition series for the anniversary in 2025 after "Salon Schwarzenberg - Kunst braucht (Frei-)Raum" and "Neurotitan:B-Seite - Hidden Tracks from Treasured Artists". The focus is now on the examination of the house as a sonic and atmospheric resonance space.

Many of the works on display work with sound, noise or acoustic memory. They take up the idea of the echo in different ways - as a trace, repetition or fragment from another time. In addition to current and historical works, archive materials and personal objects are shown that create connections between past and present. These can be seen in installations, metal sculpture and photography, for example.

ECHOHAUS approaches the history of the house not through linear narratives, but through superimpositions and reverberations. The exhibition is complemented by text passages from Norman Ohler's novel MITTE, which are integrated into the exhibition space as a literary echo.

The motifs of sound and sonic traces will be transferred to the stage at the Eschschloraque Rümschrümp artists' club as a comprehensive accompanying program: in September and October, a selected program will accompany the exhibition with live tributes, concerts and a line-up that reflects the sonic traces in the ECHOHAUS and performs them live on stage.
