"I was a son, now I am no longer a son."

French author Didier Eribon actually wanted to visit his mother regularly in her nursing home in a small town in Champagne. But she died a few weeks after moving there. An event that becomes the starting point for a journey into the past.

What remains at the end of a long life? Between factory work and group trips organized by the works council. Trade union meetings and dime novels. Domestic violence and everyday racism. Financial hardship and unattainable dreams. The life of a worker.

The play tells of poverty in old age and loneliness. Of the conditions in care homes and what it's like to suddenly find yourself living there. Of mothers and sons. Of family and origins. And not least of the seemingly lost world of the working class.
