For newcomer Emma Harner, the guitar is not just an instrument; it is an extended arm, a literal part of the US-American. Since her first viral clips on Instagram and TikTok, the up-and-coming indie/folk artist has been one of the most exciting young guitarists of her generation. And this despite the fact that she originally learned to play the violin as a child and only taught herself to play the guitar much later. Since her debut single "When You Mean It" from 2024, which premiered on the Zane Lowe radio show, her sound has combined the finest technical precision with personal vulnerability and is firmly at home in the niche genre of math folk; a combination of emotionally charged folk and the technical demands of math rock. Just a year after her first single release, Emma Harner followed up with her first EP "Taking My Side", whose songs such as "False Alarm", "Do It" and "Yes Man" deal with themes such as growing up, interpersonal relationships and self-discovery. At the beginning of April this year, the multi-instrumentalist from Lincoln, Nebraska then released her debut album "Evening Star", convincing fans and critics alike of her incredible talent. She wrote and recorded all the instruments herself - this fact alone raises the record to an undisputedly high level. But then there is also the intimate atmosphere that Emma Harner creates on the eleven songs on the record. Or the profound cinematic depth, despite all the intimacy, which shines in harmonious coexistence with the impressive, complex guitar parts. Songs like "The Axe" prove how Emma mirrors her technical sophistication on a lyrical level, for example when a constantly shifting chord sequence reflects the inner panic of an unstable relationship, including the oppressive feeling that this very situation triggers in you. Last year, Emma Harner visited Germany with her sound for a sold-out concert in Berlin. The debut album now provides the perfect occasion for another tour, for which Emma will be making three stops in Germany this fall when she brings her innovative math-folk to the stage live in Cologne, Berlin and Munich.
