The denazification of Germany has largely failed. This can be seen not only in the cultural fascination with fascism and tyranny, but also in their political return: authoritarian patterns of thought and action have long since returned to German parliaments. But what would real denazification mean today - cognitively, emotionally, performatively? "Denazify yourselves!" is an attempt to use a participatory performance to come to terms with history both intellectually and emotionally - and to combine both with today's struggles for justice. We start with the blind spots of the post-war period: using original texts, heirlooms, fantasies and oral history, we approach the legal continuity of the young Federal Republic with the Nazi state - and our own entanglements with it.
But what do contemporary tyrannies look like? As the performance progresses, we encounter artificial intelligence, Christian fundamentalists, gender identity and trans rights, among other things: From Nazi ideology to the Self-Determination Act and into geopolitically motivated disinformation campaigns, frighteningly topical lines are drawn - in mask and costume. Dancing is allowed. It's going to be great. Come along!
