Regardless of whether we live in the city or in the country, how we get to work or how much we have left over at the end of the month: We all want a warm home, mobility we can afford and a healthy planet where our children can grow up well and free. One guarantee of this is the energy transition. But this is now at stake: We are appalled that Economics Minister Katherina Reiche and parts of the CDU/CSU want to slow down the expansion of renewable energies.

Because fossil fuels threaten our security. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the Greenland crisis, the Iran war and escalating energy prices show us that oil and gas make us dependent and vulnerable to blackmail by autocrats. They are driving up energy prices and fueling extreme weather conditions that particularly affect economically weaker sections of society. In these times of crisis, the expansion of renewable energy protects consumers from escalating costs and permanently lowers the price of electricity. Renewables secure millions of jobs in SMEs and industry. On rooftops and in the hands of citizens, they democratize the energy supply. They are the central and best answer to the climate crisis.

Katherina Reiche wants to slow down the expansion of renewables - for the profits of the oil and gas industry. We are uniting against this - as citizens, democrats, consumers and climate activists, as employees, installers and investors from the renewables sector, as people from all generations. Now is the time for us to defend the energy transition! We are calling for joint demonstrations on Saturday, April 18 - including in Berlin.

We are calling on the German government to take the plans for a grid package and a new Renewable Energy Sources and Building Modernization Act off the table. And to make a fresh start. To achieve this, we need

• A faster pace of expansion for solar and wind power.
• an expansion offensive for distribution grids and electricity storage as well as the digitalization of the energy system for smart grids.
• a strengthening of European independence through a separate energy transition industry and its protection against unfair competition.
• a reduction in electricity tax for all and a lower price for electricity for heat pumps to make e-cars and heat pumps even more attractive and to make the good stuff cheap.
• social support and strong tenant protection to make climate-friendly heating affordable for everyone.

We are all called upon to save the energy transition and push through more speed. Demonstrate with us on April 18 at 12 noon in Invaliedenpark!
