Eröffnungskonzert 21. Bundesbegegnung Jugend jazzt

From May 14 to 17, 2026, the 21st National Youth Jazz Encounter will take place in Halle. The city on the Saale will host this jazz event for the second time after 2007. Exciting competitions, varied concerts, sessions and workshops will take place in the Puschkinhaus, on the Peißnitzinsel, in the Georgenkirche and at the Institute of Music at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The participating jazz combos have impressed at state level and thus qualified for this national meeting. They can now demonstrate their skills in front of a prominent jury and audience at national level.

Traditionally, the host federal state opens the national Jugend jazzt meeting with a musical prelude. This year is no exception! The Saxony-Anhalt State Youth Big Band under Ralf Hesse will get things off to an energetic start with powerful beats, groovy arrangements and plenty of enthusiasm. In the second set, the Jazzkollektiv Halle Sextett presents music in a collectivist spirit: all band members have equal rights and contribute their own compositions and arrangements. The result is an acoustic sound with a variety of timbres that are shaped into one sound by the ability of the individual musicians to interact with each other.
