In the face of censorship, war and persecution, artists from many parts of the world have sought refuge in Germany in recent years and decades. Many of them find themselves in a particularly threatening situation as they publicly campaign for change in their countries of origin. Despite Berlin's role as the capital of exile, their works have so far received little attention in museums or galleries.
HAUS. KUNST. MITTE. is committed to highlighting the important role of exiled artists in the Berlin art scene. The current exhibition brings together 18 outstanding artists from nine countries. The diversity of their artistic positions and cultural backgrounds opens up spaces for understanding. New forms of dialog give rise to a multi-layered network of ideas that transcends borders.
Exile is not only an individual fate, but can also be a source of creative power. The works on display invite us to reflect on the global phenomenon of exile and its profound influence on human experience and artistic expression. An invitation to rediscover art beyond borders - in the here and now.
