Four extraordinary documentaries tell of the importance of dance, music, creativity and love that people experience in old age. An Auschwitz survivor finds an expression for her traumatic experiences on stage, a very old New York interior designer designs rooms like her eccentric life, a Polish artist persistently pursues her passions, old people in Denmark remember the great loves of their lives and draw a special strength from them. Haunting and inspiring portraits about dignity, longing and the courage to shape one's own life to the very end.

The Euphoria of Being

How can the trauma of the Shoah be dealt with? This question runs through the documentary, which focuses on the life of Hungarian Jew Éva Pusztai-Fahidi, born in 1925. Réka Szabó, not only a filmmaker but also an important choreographer from Budapest, convinced the elderly Éva to realize her life in a dance project together with a dancer 60 years her junior. The film accompanies this project, which reminds us of things that have been hushed up, repressed and painful and releases incredible energy in all those involved. At 92, New Yorker Eleanor Ambos is in the midst of a flourishing business life. She came to the USA from Europe after the Second World War and set up her own business. She is an interior architect and designer, she buys run-down warehouses and turns them into stunning interiors full of color. She is eccentric, she loves dancing and colorful dresses. And she has a special relationship with the much younger waiter Peter. The film accompanies her in her everyday life and takes a look at a life that is anything but conventional.

At 69, Jola decides to start over again. She leaves her abusive husband after 45 years together and goes to Poland, her home country. She meets up with old friends and her children, who are living their own lives. And she remembers her youth and the time before she met the wrong man. Now, despite all her wounds, she takes her life into her own hands, has dancing and singing lessons - always perfectly made up and well dressed - and repairs the roof of her house. In the end, it's relationships that matter in life. This could be the conclusion of the interviews with nine elderly people who are asked about their lives in this documentary. The haunting portraits, sensitively captured on camera, offer insights into the different marriages of the nine protagonists.
