When Robert Flaherty was recording the soundtrack for "Man of Aran" in London, he made this short film with his legendary actors Colman King, Maggie Dirrane, Patch Ruadh, Michaeleen Dillane and the storyteller Seáinín Tom Ó Dioráin. Shot entirely in the Aran Islands dialect, the film was thought to be lost until a 35mm nitrate film print was discovered at Harvard in 2013.

Robert Flaherty's first sound film is a breathtaking, romanticized ethnographic film about mankind and the sea. The inhabitants of the Aran Islands wage a constant battle for survival against the relentless forces of nature as they fish in their traditional Irish round boats, gather seaweed on barren land and hunt for sharks. A movie experience for the senses.
