The "First Meeting" concert series brings together renowned musicians from all over Europe and NRW for the first time. In First Meeting 3, Jonathan Aardestrup from Copenhagen, Gunda Gottschalk and Fabian Neubauer will play an impressive improvisation concert.
Jonathan Aardestrup is a Copenhagen-based musician, composer, producer and organizer who always tries to balance his forms of expression between the unconventional and the catchy. As a free-spirited double bass player, he is constantly searching for new paths beyond mere repetition - in composed music, improvisation, field recordings and their combination. He plays in the quartet The Way Out as well as in numerous ad hoc formations and works regularly with musicians such as Makoto Sato, Ada Rave, Anders Vestergaard, Signe Emmeluth, Johanna Borchert, Peter Ole Jørgensen, Lisa Ullén, Andreas Røysum and Erik Kimestad.
Gunda Gottschalk (violin/viola) moves between improvised and contemporary music and combines her sound work with dance, theater, film, composition, visual arts and literature. From 1994 to 2002, she worked closely with Peter Kowald, for example as part of "365 Tage vor ORT" and in the global village formation. She is represented at festivals throughout Europe and has performed internationally in countries such as the USA, Canada, Russia, China and Myanmar. She has also initiated numerous large-scale projects such as the orchestra exchange "sounds of shanghai", music theater productions and participatory operas. Her diverse activities have had a lasting impact on the scene in NRW.
Fabian Neubauer (*1994) is a musician, multi-instrumentalist, improviser and curator and works internationally at the interface of experimental and improvised music, free jazz, noise, electro-acoustic music and performance art. His practice combines free improvisation with conceptual approaches; he understands music as an open, constantly evolving process. His work is characterized by intuition, physicality and a sensitive reaction to space and sound. In addition to percussion, he uses piano, electronic feedback systems, field recordings and various sound objects. Neubauer works in a multidisciplinary way, has released numerous albums and is active as a curator at "Solips" and "ORT" in Wuppertal, among others.
This concert is the first meeting of the three musicians in this constellation; the occasion is Jonathan Aardestrup's tour.
