In the midst of storm and rain, a young missionary stands in front of a strange property, looking for her first baptized child. The man who opens the door to her seems calm and polite and interested in a theological debate - but something is wrong: his questions are too well posed, his interest too focused. A duel of faith and skepticism, conviction and doubt soon ensues between the two. What begins as a chance encounter becomes a test - psychological, moral and spiritual. The boundaries between truth and faith, between mission and temptation, begin to blur. The play asks whether faith can save or destroy, and what happens when conviction becomes an obsession: who is converting whom?

The play "Heretic", based on the plot of the US film "Heretic" (2024), develops from a two-person chamber play into an oppressive psychological thriller in which existential questions of our time are addressed: How do we deal with faith, doubt, guilt and responsibility - in a society that is both increasingly secularized and characterized by spiritual searching? At a time when religious and ideological conflicts are once again becoming visible, the play offers an artistic space for dialog, reflection and a change of perspective.

After successfully adapting a novel by Belgian author Amélie Nothomb for the stage last year with "The Neighbor", Theater glassbooth is now transferring a film material to the stage play with "Heretic".
