To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Mannheim artist Franz Schömbs (1909-1976) in spring 2026, the artists' estates in Mannheim are organizing an exhibition and lecture series together with PORT25 - Raum für Gegenwartskunst.

Thu, 30/04/2026, 7 pm - Thomas Worschech (DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, Frankfurt am Main) places Franz Schömbs' films in the context of German experimental film of the 1950s

Thu, 07/05/2026, 7 pm - Lou Burkart (Curator, Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam) describes the challenges she faced during the restoration and digitization of the various film versions in 2022

Thu, 28/05/2026, 7 pm - Prof. Dr. Henry Keazor (Institute for European Art History at the University of Heidelberg) places Schömbs' film works in an art historical context
