Friendly Capitalism Lounge Vol. 22 - With all the artists who have ever been there
The world is still ending - but it's our birthday!
The Friendly Capitalism Lounge is back and celebrating its anniversary this year! For 25 years now, the Friendly Capitalism Lounge has been taking an artistically critical look at the messed-up world situation and has managed to bring together numerous parallel universes of music and art that exist side by side.
The Lounge was founded in August 2001 by Fehmi Baumbach and Jim Avignon. The world was once again in upheaval: the golden 1990s were over, the city was broke and Berlin's government had just resigned following a vote of no confidence.
Jim and Fehmi wanted to react to all of this with a slightly different party format - and ironically torpedo the emerging alliance between industry and subculture. This is how the "Who is afraid of Friendly Capitalism Lounge" was born. This format quickly developed into a very special institution and has now been defying the constantly worsening conditions for 25 years with a wild mix of artists, musicians and illustrators of all styles.
Because outside, everything remains as it is - only worse: culture is being kept to a minimum, governments are in spin mode, humanism has taken a wrong turn somewhere and the climate is seriously considering a planetary change. Inside, we are celebrating against corruption and division - for attitude, fun and a bit of megalomania.
As always, capitalism is to blame - but without it, things probably wouldn't be so good. So it's high time for a little Friendly Capitalism Lounge.
To mark the 25th anniversary, Jim Avignon and Fehmi Baumbach have now invited all artists from the Lounge over the last few decades to participate once again with a work and almost all of them are taking part!A 100-page catalog will be published for the vernissage, full of photos, quirky anecdotes and stories that can only be experienced in the haze of friendly capitalism.
Be there when it's time once again to put down your money-saving socks and get into recession fashion! Experience a turbulent evening with obscure guests from all over the world and semi-celebrities from the worlds of art and music.
