Gabi Hartmann (Sony Masterworks/FR) *live*

Gabi Hartmann moves effortlessly between the most diverse styles. With playful ease, she interweaves jazz, pop, folk and soul with influences from Brazilian and African music. Her songs - sometimes melancholy, sometimes colorful, sometimes full of rhythmic energy - create a world that belongs entirely to her and yet in which her great role models Mercedes Sosa and Miriam Makeba appear again and again.

With her warm, clear timbre, she creates multi-faceted soundscapes that transport us into a personal dream world with their wealth of influences. Hartmann studied philosophy and politics in Paris, from where she traveled to almost every continent - and brought back music from every trip. In Rio de Janeiro, she fell in love with Brazilian music, learned fluent Portuguese and performed in local bars. Studying ethnomusicology eventually took her to South Africa, Guinea and Portugal. All these encounters gave rise to a unique musical cosmos in which experience, emotion and cultural diversity combine to create an unmistakable voice.
