Migration is a recurring topic of political and social debate in Germany and the European Union. The migration and asylum package presented in September 2020 and the subsequent agreement reached by the Council and the European Parliament created comprehensive reforms and a new legal basis for fairer and more efficient migration management.

The package establishes a common European system that regulates procedures for both normal times and crisis situations and strives for a balance between solidarity and responsibility.

The lecture will highlight the most important reforms, their implementation and the opportunities and challenges of common European migration management - especially for the member states at the external borders.
