Get Closer: Patrick Marber’s Provocative Play Comes to ACUD Theatre Berlin

After a sold-out October run, Proximity Productions is back with Patrick Marber's acclaimed play Closer at ACUD Theater this November-for three nights only [in English]

Four characters-Dan, Anna, Larry, and Alice-navigate love, desire, and betrayal. A quartet of strangers in a sexual square dance, their story unfolds over the span of four years. Closer delivers a biting commentary on intimacy, connection, and the often-destructive consequences of human interaction. It is an unflinching examination of love's darker side.

As relationships spark, fracture, and shift, the characters circle each other in a brutal game of seduction and confession. Each encounter brings them closer-physically, emotionally, dangerously. Honesty becomes a weapon. Desire becomes a trap. No one is made "closer" by the truth.

Closer premiered at the Royal National Theatre's Cottesloe Theatre in London in 1997 and made its North American debut at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway in 1999.

Proximity Productions is a Berlin-based theater collective carving out space for bold, contemporary performance. Four voices from across the globe-Berlin, Paris, New York, and Guayaquil-each shaped by wildly different landscapes, but united by a shared language of storytelling. Trained in studios, sharpened on stages, and shaped by film sets, their work spans continents, mediums, and genres. What connects them is a commitment to truth, vulnerability, and performances that dare to be raw.
