With their new record XOLO, XIXA from Tucson, Arizona, take the audience on a mythical journey through the underworld of Aztec culture. Psychedelic rock meets cumbia, dark folklore and Latin American soundscapes. With driving guitars and dynamic arrangements, the band led by Brian López and Gabriel Sullivan creates a concept album about transformation, myth and modernity.
At the same time, Howe Gelb, mastermind of Giant Sand, returns to the stage together with his Danish comrades-in-arms from The DeSoto Caucus - almost 20 years after the acclaimed album All Over the Map. The sound remains "erosion rock": Americana, space country and improvised sound journeys reminiscent of the wild magic of the early Giant Sand days. Pitchfork once called it "rowdiest Giant Sand music since 1992".
Two bands, two perspectives on desert music - earthy, experimental and full of stories.
