Musical concert by and with Elijah Nielebock and Jona Arava

What is girlhood? What is femininity? What wishes and dreams do we have, and what does reality look like? And how do we deal with the concept of gender when we don't feel we belong to what we were assigned at birth?

GIRLHOOD is a musical concert conceived and performed by Elijah Nielebock (dey/deren) and Jona Arava (sie/ihr). The two non-binary artists got to know each other in the independent musical scene and then the idea for GIRLHOOD was quickly born. The better Jona and Elijah got to know the genre, the more they realized that many musicals don't tell trans* stories in an authentic or realistic way. They were inspired by very different musicals and embedded solos, duets and group numbers in the context of their own story, always keeping the aspect of self-empowerment in mind.

Now they are on stage together with a fascinating concert that musically depicts the experiences of a trans* person - from childhood to adulthood, from coming out to dating, from family to career. The artists will be accompanied on piano by Joseph Pierce (dey/deren) for some of the songs.

On stage: Jona Arava, Elijah Nielebock and Joseph Pierce
Technology: Jaclyn Schönberg
Duration: approx. 2 hours, with intermission
