Probably the world's best-known oratorio at Christmas:
George Frideric Handel's 'Messiah'. The story of the "King of Kings",
the "Lord of Lords" was written in a veritable creative frenzy.
Handel needed just 24 days to complete his dramatic,
hymn-like, but above all in the fugues so transparent and, despite all the
swirling coloratura.
The world premiere of "the most accomplished musical work of art of all
of all time" (according to a contemporary reviewer) took place in Dublin on April 13, 1747
in Dublin and was enthusiastically celebrated. It becomes a
an approaching messianic age and promised comfort, grace and light to the people,
grace and light.
