After many years of dance practice, Angus suggests that improvisation should be viewed in the same way as experiencing a landscape. And at the same time, he says, you have to become like a landscape yourself in order to improvise.
How can landscape be performed? How could the body move if it is understood as rain? This workshop explores ideas around physicality and imagination and explores the improvising body as we would explore a landscape.
At the heart of the workshop is an exploration of the English term "shape": It is about the relationship between imagined and realized form, between intention and result.
Is "shape" a noun or a verb?
Is our shape something that is ultimately to be achieved, or is it rather the way to get there?
Angus brings a personal perspective to these questions: "I'm 72, I have a heart condition and arthritis." From this point of view, the workshop looks at how - as we get older and our bodies age, or if we have different abilities or limitations - we can continue to work with the external movements of dance and the internal assessment of our 'shape'.
Should we, as older people or people who move differently physically, struggle to achieve a certain "recognized" shape? Or move our bodies into the shapes they take on their own imaginative paths?
Angus suggests that, much like traversing a landscape, we need to reshape ourselves with each step and in each moment if we are to enjoy and celebrate our own journey.
For all dance and movement enthusiasts.
The workshop will be held in English, German translation is possible.
