For the eighth time, the association "moving history - Festival of Historical Film Potsdam" is awarding the CLIO for a current film that is dedicated to a historical topic in a particularly successful way.

Hildegard Knef was an actress, singer, author - and more: style icon, taboo breaker, symbolic figure of post-war Germany. She was the first German world star after the Second World War to appear on Broadway, sang chansons full of self-irony and wrote bestsellers such as "Der geschenkte Gaul". She polarized people with her openness about illness, ageing and love and became the projection screen of a generation. Luzia Schmid's documentary lets Hildegard Knef herself have her say - laconic, clever, vulnerable. Particularly impressive are excerpts from TV interviews and talk shows, in which Knef responds with an almost literary quality to the often smug and invasive questions of the male presenters. Interviews with her daughter Christina and her third husband Paul von Schell complete the portrait. Her songs can also be heard in the film - from "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen" to "Von nun an ging's bergab" - they tell more about her than any biography could. The film shows that Knef was never perfect - but that is exactly what makes her unique and unforgettable. Hildegard Knef would have been 100 years old on December 28.
