In the cinema hall of the former Karstadt department store we present a selection of current fixed media works by international participants of the International Computer Music Conference 2026. You can expect various creative film and media contributions.
One of the highlights is the animated short film "The Man in the Mangroves Counts to Sleep", which is based on the poem of the same name by Florida poet Donna Decker. The starting point is a real-life encounter with a homeless mathematician living in a mangrove swamp in Key West, USA. Based on Decker's poem, the composer James A. "Andy" Moorer developed a new musical form. Using digital speech synthesis, he transformed the narrator's voice into a multi-layered sound composition - completely without traditional instruments. The result is an "opera novella": a work that combines literary narration and musical dramaturgy in a synthesized sound world.
