"Heaven on earth - To my dearest foot skin"
♡♡ 天上人間 ♡ ♡ 十里腳皮♡ ♡
Duration: March 14 - April 26, 2026
Exhibition with artistic contributions by NURFUERESSEN (Tin Wang, Yu Lu) and Hang Su (LAB OF ASIAN DIASPORA)
In the course of cultural history, the foot has acquired different symbolic meanings. In Christian cultures, it is considered a low and "unclean" part of the body and is associated with dust, physical labor and humility. In the Bible, too, the foot is a sign of submission and suffering. Bare feet were long considered shameful and were socially concealed.
In Buddhist contexts, on the other hand, it stands for the spiritual path; in Chinese medicine, the foot forms an energetic center that connects man and earth. Accordingly, foot care is still a natural social practice in China and many East and Southeast Asian countries. There, foot care stands for care, health and social exchange - not for intimacy in the Western sense.
In a kind of foot massage studio, the immersive exhibition addresses the associated cultural views of shame, intimacy and social closeness and creates a space between visual rawness and intimacy. Transparent and semi-transparent materials, textile layers and framed vistas structure the view and create spaces for different perspectives and interpretations. Light and sound slow down perception; sensitive surfaces absorb traces. The exhibition space itself thus becomes a resonating body - a place where publicity and care, exposure and protection can be experienced simultaneously.
Events and mediation
Performance with live music
by NURFUERESSEN (Tin Wang, Yu Lu) and Hang Su (LAB OF ASIAN DIASPORA)
During the performance evening, the audience is invited to experience a footbath. Live electronic music will accompany the three-hour performance at the gallery window, which can also be watched from the street. Among other things, a foot massage and an artistic work in which the skin of the feet is treated with edible foods will be on display. The public is invited to try these materials afterwards. Another contribution works with a rolling beach ball and explores movement, balance and playful physicality.
