Migration as an opportunity for a sustainable society

An evening of literature and dialog on International Migrants Day with, among others, SašaStanišić and Minister of State Natalie Pawlik

Date: December 2, 2025 | 6:00 pm (admission from 5:30 pm)

Location: Pfefferberg Haus 13 | Schönhauser Allee 176 | 10119 Berlin (barrier-free access via Christinenstraße)

Every migration story begins with a departure. With courage, with loss, with hope. Those who set off leave behind familiar things and at the same time create something new. Migration not only changes biographies, it actively shapes societies.

In Germany, millions of people with a history of migration help to ensure that hospitals function, companies grow, research progresses and culture remains vibrant and colorful. They are helping to shape a country that would be less innovative, diverse and sustainable without migration. Their contributions strengthen the economy, cohesion and innovation in equal measure.

But what about our welcoming culture? What significance does labor migration have in times of skills shortages? And what does it take to ensure participation and social cohesion in the long term?

Together with the writer Saša Stanišić, Minister of State Natalie Pawlik, Dr. Susanne U. Schultz (Bertelsmann Foundation), Nicolas Bartels (NETZWERK Unternehmen integrieren Flüchtlinge) and Edith Otiende-Lawani (Giving Africa a New Face e. V.), we will be exploring these topics as part of the International Migrants Day on December 2.

The reading will be moderated by Stefanie Ericke-Keidtel. Johanna Rüdiger will lead the panel discussion.

Register for the event free of charge.
