International Museum Day in Marienfelde

Arriving - sounds and voices that connect

Under the motto "Arriving - sounds and voices that connect", the focus is on arrival and new beginnings, central experiences both for refugees of the German division and for people arriving in Berlin today.

Music, voices and joint discussions serve as connecting elements. The event combines exhibition offerings, personal encounters and musical impulses to invite visitors to reflect on hope, home and arrival.

Program

Language café table "Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao!" 12 - 15:30
Visitors are invited to get to know the spirit of the language café at the Erinnerungsstätte and sit down together at a large table.
Over coffee, snacks and conversation, we will collect songs of hope from all over the world: Which songs give people strength? What music reminds us of new beginnings or arrivals? Which songs connect people across borders? Selected songs are listened to or played together. The result is an open collection of international songs of hope.

Guided tour "Herumspaziert" 1 pm
A tour of the site of the former reception center provides an overview of the history of the place and the experiences of the people who arrived here.

Guided tour "Flight in a divided Germany" 2:30 pm
The guided tour sheds light on the flight movements from the GDR and the role of the Marienfelde emergency reception center as the first station in the West.

Live music on the forecourt
Atmospheric handpan sounds will accompany the event on the forecourt. The music creates an open and quiet space to arrive, listen and linger.

New Home" video installation
The music video "New Home" is presented as an installation in the permanent exhibition. It focuses on arrival, hope and new beginnings and combines the historical experiences of the site with contemporary perspectives.

Language Café Table "Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao!" 12:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Visitors are invited to experience the spirit of the memorial site's language café and take a seat together at a large table.Over coffee, snacks, and conversation, we'll gather songs of hope from around the world: Which songs give people strength? Which music evokes a sense of departure or arrival? Which songs connect people across borders? Selected songs will be listened to or played together. This creates an open collection of international songs of hope.

Guided Tour "Walking Around" 1:00 PM
A tour of the grounds of the former reception center provides an overview of the site's history and the experiences of the people who arrived here.

Guided Tour: "Flight from a Divided Germany" at 2:30 p.m.
This guided tour explores the exodus from the GDR and the role of the Marienfelde emergency reception camp as the first stop in the West.
