"Once upon a time there was a fairy who only granted one wish", is how the fairy tale "The One-Wish Fairy" by Jens-Fietje Dwars begins. But what happens when there is only one wish on offer instead of the usual three? Jens-Fietje Dwars is a storyteller, editor and essayist as well as a book designer, magazine, film and exhibition maker. In his essayistic work, he moves in a broad literary cosmos from Goethe to Heiner Müller and Christoph Hein, as his anthology "Erfolg ist ein Irrtum" (Success is a Mistake), published this year, documents. In view of his recently published volume of fairy tales, he talks to Kerstin Hensel about the significance and literary value of fairy tales in the 21st century. What information do fairy tales provide about our society and reality today?
