Jenseits von Macker und Mythos – Welche Männlichkeiten wollen wir leben?

In the organizer's words:

An evening to inform, discuss and network

To register via the Heinrich Böll Foundation Hamburg

"Men are dangerous." "Men are violent." "Men are toxic."

The image of men and masculinities in the public and media is often negative. And it's no coincidence: statistics show that men lead riskier lives, consume more alcohol and nicotine and are more frequently involved in acts of violence. At the same time, influencers on social media specifically target teenagers and young men with macho, aggressive and patriarchal role models - often with great resonance. Political developments also show that such offers are popular. The statement "Not all men are like this!" is correct - and yet the figures speak for structural patterns that we want to talk about.

At the same time, we are looking for other forms of masculinity: solidary, responsible, cooperative and reflective. However, educational and political initiatives that strengthen such perspectives often remain less visible and find it difficult to attract public attention. We want to change this.

Together, we want to ask: What forms of masculinity do we want to live? Which images of masculinity are attractive and sustainable? And what has become of earlier debates about masculinity?

After a brief introduction, there will be space for discussion and networking. As part of a prepared bar camp, we will organize themed tables - at the same time, you can contribute your own questions and concerns. People from different areas of society are invited, such as sport, religion, fatherhood, queerness, education, health, (sexualized) violence, racism and more.

We offer the opportunity to talk openly, share perspectives and network.

The event is part of the Beyond Borders project and takes place in cooperation with Jungenarbeit Hamburg, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Hamburg and GWA St. Pauli. It is supported by the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Hamburg, ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and NUE with proceeds from BINGO!
