QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
A tribute to a magical place for the queer community in the 80s and 90s in Hamburg, brought to life by Queer Zeitzeug:innen Hamburg
Since the summer of 2025, the Queer Zeitzeug:innen Hamburg have been enriching the city's culture of remembrance - and as soon as the name Katharina is mentioned in the group, eyes light up and memories begin to bubble up.
Katharina - that's what everyone called the Toom Peerstall bar, named after its legendary landlady. In the 1980s and 1990s, she was at home at Clemens-Schultz-Straße 43, in the same place as today, albeit in much smaller rooms. The pub was dimly lit, somewhat battered, often full to the last seat and smoky. What was on offer? Manageable. The music? A matter of taste. And yet - or precisely because of this - the Katharina was a place where you could just be.
The Queer Contemporary Witnesses Hamburg invite you on a journey into this special past - to a place full of stories that no longer exists today.
Contemporary witnesses will give first-hand accounts - and guests are also invited to share their own stories and bring along memorabilia or pictures. Your own memories of Katharina are expressly welcome!
