Francis "Baby" Houseman is a girl from a rich family. She and her family are spending their summer vacation in 1963 at Max Kellerman's hotel, where Baby meets the handsome dance teacher Johnny Castle - his show makes her want to dance too. But the mambo god has no love for spoiled upper-class girls. But then his dance partner Penny drops out due to an unwanted pregnancy and Baby offers her help. Now she has to learn the complicated figures of the mambo on the fly. The couple quickly become emotionally close, but have to overcome various problems along the way: a series of thefts and the golden hotel rule that staff and guests must remain separated by an invisible line make things difficult for Baby and Johnny...
