Music has accompanied Katie Gregson-MacLeod from Scotland since her childhood. She wrote her first songs on guitar and piano as a teenager. At the age of 18, she released her debut single "Still a Sad Song" and began studying history in Edinburgh. The release of her EP "Games I Play", which shows the singer in a bedroom pop aesthetic, was followed by the single "Second Single Bed". At that point, Katie Gregson-MacLeod had no idea that everything would change for her shortly afterwards. She went viral on TikTok in August 2022 with a video snippet for her track "complex", after which the demo of the song literally exploded on Spotify following its release. With the release of the single, she was signed to Columbia Records and re-released "complex" as a full studio version in October 2022, which was followed by her second EP "songs written for piano" in December 2022. The studio version and the demo for "complex" now have over 50 million streams on Spotify.

Following her rocket-like breakthrough, the New York Times featured Katie Gregson-MacLeod in an exclusive interview, while BBC Radio Scotland listed her in its "25 Artists to Watch". With the momentum behind her, the musician moved to London in 2023. In the same year, "complex" was nominated for "Best Song Musically and Lyrically" at the 2023 Ivor Novello Awards, while Katie Gregson-MacLeod won the Vega Breakthrough Award at the Scottish Music Awards. Her third EP "Big Red" was released on October 13, 2023, after which the singer released her major label deal in spring 2024. Katie Gregson-MacLeod moved from London to Glasgow, focused on songwriting and played at festivals. In mid-February, she released her single "Teenage Love" as a debut release on Last Recordings on Earth, where the singer-songwriter found a new home after the end of her major label contract. In a feature with Rolling Stone UK, she talked about how the song came about, the high expectations following her TikTok success and the process of leaving the label. With newfound freedom and no pressure from the major label music industry, the single blossoms into a folky pop vibe and leaves us excited to see where the musician will go in the future. Katie Gregson-MacLeod will be coming to Berlin and Cologne for two German concerts at the end of October.
