Dance is a living language - it preserves memories, tells stories and creates spaces of resistance. However, many of these stories, especially those of women, have been suppressed or reinterpreted over time.
The performative installation La Pola by XXTanzTheater takes up these perspectives and brings them into a transcultural dialog. Inspired by the Colombian resistance fighter Policarpa Salavarrieta(La Pola), a symbol of courage and rebellion against colonial oppression, the piece combines historical reflection with current questions of identity, self-determination and female visibility. In impressive choreographic images, traditional Colombian dances meet contemporary movement languages. Film, music and performance merge into a multi-layered installation that questions colonial and patriarchal structures and opens up new perspectives.
Dancers from Europe and the Colombian Caribbean use their bodies to tell stories of memory, community and resistance - and make it possible to experience the power of female stories across cultural boundaries.
For the performances in the Bundeskunsthalle, accordionist Eva Zöllner will accompany the performance installation with live music. Nominated for the Cologne Dance Theater Award 2025.
