About courage, music and almost forgotten female masters

With her new album, cellist Raphaela Gromes is bringing an extraordinary project to the stage: "Fortissima" is a tribute to female composers whose works have long been overlooked. Gromes has been researching the music of female composers for over five years. Her successful album "Femmes" (2023) with works by 24 female composers from Hildegard von Bingen to Billie Eilish is one result of this work.

In collaboration with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the cellist has now recorded a double album with many premiere recordings, ranging from Henriëtte Bosmans to P!NK and impressively demonstrating how much undiscovered diversity music history has to offer. Personal, political and poetic, "Fortissima" tells the story of women who composed, performed and taught against the odds - and whose voices deserve to be heard.

The album is complemented by the accompanying book "Fortissima!" (Goldmann Verlag) by Raphaela Gromes and Susanne Wosnitzka, in which the impressive life stories of the female composers can be read. A moving evening about musical ability, female role models and the power of making oneself heard.
