LAKTAT // ein AUSWÄRTSSPIEL der studiobühneköln

In the organizer's words:

a co-production of Unbaked Collective and studiobühneköln
at TanzFaktur

Between prep talk, power gels and performance pressure: in this physical theatre piece, the Unbaked Collect ive examines the growing trend towards extreme endurance sports as a reflection of our optimization-driven society. On a neon-colored podium, Laura Louise van Meurs and Viviane Hamm focus on the body, breath, sweat and pulse. The artists ask themselves what their bodies can achieve and why they demand this performance from themselves.

Their explosive and highly physical choreographies are accompanied live on stage by percussionist Daniel Ismaili, who works himself to the bone with them on the drums. Multimedia artist Maria Kobylenko drives the performance with her flashy 3D animation. Peppered with sharp and humorous texts, "Laktat" examines a seemingly harmless trend and its long history. Where does sporting activity end and where does the unconscious reproduction of ideological images of the strong and superior body begin? Is the exhausted body a political body? And how much search for meaning is there in self-optimization during training? "Laktat" is a performative long run through fitness influencer feeds, neoliberal body ideals and the fear of standing still.
