The "Schöne Bücher" reading stage presents publishers and new literary publications from the "Schöne Bücher" network, from which Edition Outbird invites one publisher at a time.
To kick things off, the two authors Stefan Leithold and David Gray will be reading:

Stefan Leithold will present his debut novel "Eternos", which will be published by Dresden-based Ultraviolett Verlag in March 2026.

The young actor Martin Sterngrad is offered the leading role of his life - and increasingly loses himself in the world of the mysterious play. When the curtain rises and darkness falls over everything, the magic begins. Between the fascinating districts of the eternal city of Eternos, its enigmatic inhabitants and the manipulative machinations of the ruling Confitat, the boundaries between stage and reality become blurred. As Martin immerses himself in his role as Linus, he becomes part of a story that reaches beyond the theater - a play with questions about freedom, immortality and the price of art.

David Gray will read from his short story collection "Embrace of the Barbarians", published by Edition Outbird in spring 2025.

David Gray lures readers into the dark corners of the world and lets monstrous events follow intimate horrors of everyday life. He takes us to the Wild West to a town that won't appear on any map, tells of mythical creatures, tells of a serial killer who kills to greet death, makes a Colombian cartel killer despair, challenges the Marquis de Sade to solve a mysterious murder case over a sumptuous dinner or describes how a serene club manager dusts off old dreams one last time and experiences a surprise in the process.
