On the occasion of ME/CFS Awareness Day on May 12, 2026, lying-down demonstrations and accompanying actions will take place nationwide from May 9 to 12, 2026.

The central day of action is Saturday, May 9, 2026, on which around 30 prone demos are expected to take place under the motto

Let's draw attention to the dramatic situation of people with ME/CFS!

ME/CFS is a serious, often life-changing disease. According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, over 620,000 diagnoses were recorded in 2023 alone, including many children and adolescents. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of approved medication, nationwide specialized care structures and needs-based care and social security.
Although the recently announced research decade for post-infectious diseases represents an important first step, it is neither sufficiently specific to ME/CFS nor adequate in scope and duration to close the existing gaps in care and research in the long term.

The consequences are serious:

• People with severe illness are often left to fend for themselves.
• Families are permanently stretched to their limits
• Many of those affected can no longer leave their homes.
• People die

ME/CFS is one of the most serious and at the same time most neglected diseases of our time. Despite the high number of people affected, there is a lack of targeted research, binding care structures and social security that meets real needs.

Many sufferers receive neither adequate care nor sufficient financial support or medical assistance, with existential consequences.

We are committed to:

• Significantly more and targeted research funding for ME/CFS to enable effective therapies
• The expansion of specialized care structures
• Social security that does justice to the severity and duration of the disease.

The #LiegendDemo is a special form of protest. Participants lie down on the floor on behalf of those who can no longer leave their bed. In this way, the invisibility of severely and very severely affected people is brought into the public sphere.
