Ligia Lewis: I’M NOT HERE FORRRRR…

With I'M NOT HERE FORRRRRR..., the Gropius Bau is presenting the largest solo exhibition by artist and choreographer Ligia Lewis to date. The exhibition includes new and existing works that will be on display on the first floor and in the atrium of the Gropius Bau.
Ligia Lewis has lived in Berlin since 2013 and has developed a multi-layered choreographic practice that combines performance, live installation and film. Lewis understands choreography as the movement of ideas through bodies, which she meticulously designs, shapes and stages, as well as a political act: writing against the racisms of systems based on representation and against the erasure of Black voices. Her works revolve around themes such as race, gender, violence and resistance and examine how these dynamics continue to haunt and shape our present.
I'M NOT HERE FORRRRRR... also includes the new work Wayward Chant, conceived especially for the atrium of the Gropius Bau. Over the course of the exhibition, this work will continue to unfold in the space, culminating in two full-length performances with the same title, which will premiere on November 28 and 29 as part of the Performing Arts Season.
With her extensive interdisciplinary practice, Ligia Lewis is one of the central protagonists of a reorientation of performance in the context of the visual arts and is Artist in Focus of Berliner Festspiele 2025.
