Ligia Lewis und Alexander Ghedi Weheliye | Spätschicht x Ligia Lewis

In the organizer's words:

We are looking forward to a conversation between Ligia Lewis and Alexander Ghedi Weheliye.

On the occasion of the fifth edition of Spätschicht, artist Ligia Lewis and theorist Alexander Ghedi Weheliye will talk about central themes of Lewis' work and her exhibition I'M NOT HERE FORRRRRR... currently on view at the Gropius Bau.

Alexander Ghedi Weheliye is an author, professor and curator specializing in black studies, critical theory, gender and sexuality studies, social technologies and popular culture. Weheliye is the Malcolm S. Forbes Professor at Brown University and author of Feenin: R&B Music and the Materiality of BlackFem Voices and Technology (2023). Weheliye's current work includes Zwischen Kontinenten/Between Continents - a critical autobiography about Weheliye's youth in East Germany and Somalia.

Ligia Lewis works as an artist, choreographer and director. Her films and performances deal with narratives of race, gender, violence and resistance. In doing so, she shows how history is inscribed in the body and continually influences our present. With her extensive interdisciplinary practice, Lewis is one of the central protagonists of a reorientation of performance in the context of visual arts and is Artist in Focus of Berliner Festspiele 2025. She received the theater prize DER FAUST in 2023 and the Tabori Award in 2021.

At the event, photos and video recordings may be made in which you could be recognized. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
