MIKAGE PROJECT - Japanische Min’yô-Volkslieder neu interpretiert

In the organizer's words:

Performers
SATÔ Kôki(shakuhachi flute, shinobue flute)
ASANO Shô(tsugaru shamisen lute, vocals)
HOMMA Takashi (25-string koto zither)

The three musicians Satô Kôki, Asano Shô and Homma Takashi founded MIKAGE PROJECT in December 2020 with the aim of musically rearranging the traditional Min'yô folk songs of Japan and making them accessible to future generations.

Since its formation, the band has released four EPs. As part of the 50th anniversary of friendship and cooperation between Japan and the ASEAN countries in 2023, MIKAGE PROJECT performed its first concerts abroad in Thailand and Malaysia and also cooperated with local musicians on site. Since 2024, Asano Shô has co-hosted the radio program Deai wa! Min'yôbi ('Encounters on Min'yô Day') on NHK-FM, for which MIKAGE PROJECT has contributed title and closing music.

The band has also performed abroad, including at Otakon 2024 in Washington, DC, and this year in Rome and Bologna to mark the 160th anniversary of Japanese-Italian relations. They will be coming to Germany for the first time in May 2026.
