The German premiere of A Sexual History of the Internet by artist Mindy Seu is a participatory lecture performance that reveals the hidden - and often perverse - origins of our digital tools. What role does sexuality play in the development of technologies, and how have technologies themselves been shaped by sexuality? Together with the artist, visitors are invited to read quotes aloud from a shared script on their mobile devices. This collective act of re-quoting makes it possible to experience the interactions between technological progress and sexuality, innovation and autonomy, desire and exploitation.
Mindy Seu (1991, California) is an artist and technologist who lives between Los Angeles and New York City. Her practice operates at the intersection of performance and publication, always based on technological issues. The lecture performance and artist book A Sexual History of the Internet (2025) follows on from her first book Cyberfeminism Index (2023) - a hybrid encyclopedia that brings together three decades of digital activism and net art. The project was commissioned by Rhizome in 2020, presented at the New Museum in 2022 and awarded a Graham Foundation Grant in the same year. Mindy currently teaches as an Associate Professor in the Department of Design Media Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles.
