Mitski: The Land brings the magic and majesty of Mitski's live performance to the big screen. Filmed over three nights at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta in 2024, this is a stirring depiction of what thrilled hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide. A phenomenal live performer, Mitski presented her acclaimed seventh album 'The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We' theatrically and daringly on stages around the world, presenting both a spectacle and a space-filling live show. Accompanied by a seven-piece band and choreographed by Monica Mirabile, Mitski uses every inch of the stage to her advantage, moving between spotlight and shadow. Mitski: The Land captures an artist at the height of her musical powers and lends cinematic intimacy to the thrilling live experience. Alongside the music from "The Land Is...", she also presents reworkings and reinterpretations of songs that have shaped her extensive career. The sparseness of the set (designed by Andi Watson) echoes the themes of the album: isolation, longing and the wild beauty of human connection. The visual elements shift from striking minimalism to a lush, dreamlike tableau. Directed by Grant James and mixed by their longtime producer Patrick Hyland, "Mitski: The Land" preserves the rich, raw aura that comes from experiencing these shows, while offering fans a chance to reminisce together or experience Mitski's magic for the first time.
