Anthemic piano riffs, driving grooves, fragile moments of glassy beauty and catchy melodies: this is what the Neil Cowley Trio sounds like. With this mixture of energy, emotion and playful lightness, pianist Neil Cowley, bassist Rex Horan and drummer Evan Jenkins have redefined the idea of what a jazz piano trio can sound like - and significantly shaped the British post-jazz movement.

Their seventh studio album Entity was released in 2024 and brought the band back together after a seven-year break. The subsequent tour last year showed impressively that the trio's magic is unbroken. Entity is not simply a continuation of the past, but brings together everything that makes up the unmistakable sound of the three musicians - head-nodding grooves, gripping melodies and emotional depth.

Neil Cowley himself can look back on an eventful career: even as a child, he excelled on London's classical concert stages before immersing himself in soul, funk and R&B. He founded the trio in 2005 and released six highly acclaimed albums in just ten years, from the award-winning debut Displaced to the celebrated concept album Spacebound Apes. He has also worked with artists such as Adele, Emeli Sandé, Birdy and Michael Kiwanuka and shaped global hits such as Rolling in the Deep with his piano playing.

After a successful solo phase with excursions into electronic, ambient and neoclassical music, Cowley returned with Horan and Jenkins in 2024 - and proved that the trio's flame is burning brighter than ever.
