A flicker of color, a flash, a bang! Lines chase through the room, shapes appear and disappear. Stories from the here and now, from the past and the future tell of UFO landings, metaphysical aliens and anthropomorphic insects. But also of lost places, human relationships and strange journeys.
For its 30th anniversary, Haus Schwarzenberg, one of the last places of a counterculture to the now thoroughly commercialized Berlin Mitte, was looking for poster designers - the choice fell on Katia Fouquet, Jakob Hinrichs, Sophia Martineck, Paul Paetzel and Henning Wagenbreth. The five illustrators, among many others, are closely associated with Berlin's development into a center of illustration and comic art. They all began their artistic development in Berlin, albeit at different times, and then made a name for themselves in Germany and internationally with their illustrations, posters, books, graphic novels and prints.
They have been very close to the exhibition space and bookshop Neurotitan in Haus Schwarzenberg for years because of its experimental, subterranean and non-conformist program and are therefore delighted to be showing works from recent years as well as future-oriented drawings, comics, illustrations, posters and objects. Between signs, speech bubbles and grid points, the exhibition Neon - Shadow - Supersonic directs our gaze to urban worlds, abysses, spaces of memory and visionary scenarios - to where neon light meets shadow and drawing, comics and illustration unfold their full narrative power.
