Berlin-based indie publisher etcetera press berlin presents its latest wonderful publications by Susan Madsen, Christiane Quandt and Katia Tangian.

In her volume "Zur Sache: Kunstakademie", Katia Tangian moves confidently between the poles of essay, memoir and polemic and undertakes nothing less than a reckoning with the myth-enshrouded art academy system in the Federal Republic between 1960 and 2010.
Tangian portrays a system characterized by self-dramatization, abuse of power and structural irresponsibility: professors who use the academy as a stage for their vanity, arbitrarily cross out or tear up students' work and confuse teaching with authoritarian posturing.

90 spiegelneurosen is Christiane Quandt's second volume of poetry published by etcetera press berlin after auf dem zauberberg ist kein platz mehr für alle.
Here, too, autobiographical / autofictional entries regularly published on social media are the starting point, describing everyday situations in a poetically succinct form, sorting out emotional states and identities and then mixing them up again.
Quandt uses a language without ornamentation, in constant metamorphosis, with biting humor and self-deprecating slapstick about vulnerability, neurodiversity and her own chronic illness, always with a feel for the gap that immediately opens up in the text, in everyday life, in life.

In her prose debut, author and photographer Susan Madsen reconstructs her anti-authoritarian childhood in Denmark.
These are short, often abridged stories in which she laconically brings the precarious living conditions of her childhood to life in an almost matter-of-fact, often humorous tone.
The stories are as if gutted, a few lines are enough to capture and illuminate a scene, a mood.
